In 1967, mine workers find the remnants of an ancient vanished civilization named Abkani that believe there are the worlds of light and darkness. When they opened the gate between these worlds ten thousand years ago, something evil slipped through before the gate was closed. Twenty-two years ago, the Government Paranormal Research Agency Bureau 713 was directed by Professor Lionel Hudgens, who performed experiments with orphan children. On the present days, one of these children is the paranormal investigator Edward Carnby, who has just gotten an Abkani artifact in South America, and is chased by a man with abilities. When an old friend of foster house disappears in the middle of the night, he discloses that demons are coming back to Earth. With the support of the anthropologist Aline Cedrac and the leader of the Bureau 713, Cmdr. Richard Burke, and his squad, they battle against the evil creatures. Investigating a supernatural force, Edward Carnby finds himself on the toughest case of his career. With an archaeologist helping him to trace his findings back through time for centuries, the mystery only gets more complicated the further they delve into it. Trying to make a movie out of a video game that has the same old clichéd plot of killing everything that comes in your way is a very difficult task… looks like the screen-writers didn't come up to the challenge… they just put a story line that has almost no fluidity whatsoever and left the rest to the director who, in spite of the fact that was faced with the great opportunity (in my opinion) of making a computer game into a movie (and failed successfully), has no sense of how to offer the audience a scary and thrilling experience. The effects that show the nature of our 'heroes' (seeing, feeling that something is going to happen in the next couple of seconds), are implemented pretty much OK… but the rest of the effects i can't quite make out why were the way they were and what was the intention of the film makers in all that confusion and chaos of a movie. We can't really call acting what went on in the movie, although i was expecting something different of Chritian Slater given his previous performances… and what is with all the self-sacrifices that go on? Reall life isn't like that! oh, and one more thing.. what's with the 'city evacuated' thing at the end of the movie???? C'Mon people… put some effort into it!!! it isn't really that hard to actually make a good movie if you have a really really bad guy (by the way… the monsters were quite OK at some point… congrats to the creature developers on that one), if you have a good guy who was one of the bad guys, and an ancient civilization that new what was all about… would it have been that hard to actually research a little bit further and produce a story-line that could actually hold the viewer in his seat, instead of boring him to death with a superficial and filled with clichés one…<br/><br/>anyway… on the whole, the movie is awful and i strongly advise you to get as far as you can from it. in case you have played the game (as i have) there will be an urge to watch it… try to suppress that urge cause it will save you 2 precious hours of your life… trust me! Oh my word …. I can't believe I sat through a whole 90 minutes of that Sense abusing rubbish . This is not the first time I REALLY-REALLY wanted to see a movie , because the marketing was good , the trailers rocked and everything seems WOW , and then , you see the title credits begin , you see the name MGF , and you know ….. Okay , I wasted my money . The characters had absolutely no depth , the story-line was insulting (like the underground lab was closed in the 60's , but there was a modern computer screen down there under all the dust and cobwebs). Someone , please do something about good actors who fall for crappy roles . Director Uwe Boll ("House of the Dead") has made a cottage industry out of this kind of junk. Maybe it's time for him to close up shop.
